Official beta for Hurrican on MacOS/X

April 20th, 2012

After releasing the Hurrican Source-Code some weeks ago, several people started porting the game to different platforms. Jens Restemeier works on porting Hurrican to MacOS/X. The port is currently in beta status. In case you missed his comment, here is the full story:

“If anyone is interested, this is the current beta for MacOS/X:
http://hurrican.restemeier.net/Hurrican.dmg

It requires at least MacOS 10.5, and should work on PowerPC and Intel. You should save open documents, and I guess if you want to run software from strange people on the internet you should have recent backups as well. :)

The feedback so far has been quite positive, but it still needs a bit of polish before I’d call it an official release. Have fun.
(It uses sparkle for automatic updates, and the link will always point to the latest build.)”

So feel free to test the game and post some feedback in the comments!

EDIT
Jens also created a thread for this in the hurrican forum. Go check it out:

Hurrican portable

February 16th, 2012

It’s only been about two weeks since I released the Hurrican sourcecode, but a guy named “Pickle” already managed to port Hurrican to the Open Pandora, a Linux-Powered “open source” console / portable PC.
I’m thrilled as I am watching this. Playing my game on a real “handheld device” is too cool. I can’t wait to get my hands on a Pandora to play it for myself (and to finally play all emulated games without having to jailbreak the device first!)

Hurrican source-code released

January 30th, 2012

Back in 2007, I released a freeware game that me and a friend of mine had created in our sparetime. The game was a Turrican-inspired platformer called Hurrican and it got very positive reviews from all across the net. The game was written in C++ using DirectX, and unfortunately we never managed to port it to platforms other than windows.

So today I would like to release the whole set of sourcecodes and assets that make up the game. You are free to use everything contained in the download for your own pleasure :)

It would be cool if you could drop me a note when you are using anything from the package, even though its not necessary to do so, as long as its a free release. For any commercial use, you must contact me first.

I have not touched those files for years, so don’t expect everything to work out of the box. Of course you can ask any kinds of stuff in the comments section of this post or contact me via email.

So, go and download the Hurrican sources and assets HERE!

Please check out the README.txt for further information.
